From The President

Recently we compiled impact data for the state and national Leagues and I was staggered! In 2023, Comal Area Leaguers contacted 5,814 potential voters in person, registered 849 voters, distributed 11,274 printed flyers and Voters Guides, recorded 9 local candidate forums viewed by 1,204, and reached well over 35,000 online via our website, VOTE411, news releases, social media and neighborhood blogs. Thank you everyone who made all this possible!

In 2024, we are poised to do even more with your help and support.  We're increasing the number of printed materials we'll be distributing and adding Spanish language Voter Guides. We're increasing the number of high schools we work with to register students turning 18 and we're piloting a new community voting information and registration program to reach new area residents, more students and anyone who has questions about being a Texas voter.

To support our work: join, donate, volunteer and/or  attend the Circle Arts Benefit Performance  next month.  I hope you will join me in all of these!  We offer many volunteer opportunities: check out our calendar above and on the website. Contact Us for more information.

Happy 2024!
-Jerrie Champlin

Comal Area Pilots New Community Programs

On January 29, 1 p.m.,  the LWV Comal Area will pilot a community outreach program hosted by Mammen Family Public Library.  The first session, Voting 101, will briefly describe the registration and voting process in Texas and the Comal Area for those new to voting here.  Nonpartisan information about the upcoming primary elections and voter registration will be available.  Certified Volunteer Deputy Registrars and experienced poll workers will be on hand to answer questions and take registrations.

On January 30, VDRs and experienced poll workers will be on hand again to answer questions from 5- 7 p.m. during a Voting Q & A  at Mammen Family Library and to assist voters to register or update their voter registration.  On both dates, LWV Comal Area volunteers will also offer a Mock Election activity for those not yet eligible to register and vote.  The 2024 Mock Election Theme is Texas Pollinators.

On Feb. 1 from 7 - 8 p.m., Howard Payne University will host a Voting Q & A for students and community residents.  Nonpartisan information about the upcoming primary elections and voter registration will be available.  Certified Volunteer Deputy Registrars and experienced poll workers will be on hand to answer questions and take registrations.  For more information on any of these sessions, please click on the links above or on our calendar.
