Big Give TY Oct 2023 Voter
From The President

Early voting starts soon and we wrap up this fall's Get-Out-The-Vote activities at Dia de los Muertos Oct. 28. Thank you to all the members and community partners who helped us empower voters this election cycle!  Thank you to our donors who participated in the BIG GIVE last month!  You provide the means we need to reach voters.

Empowering Comal Area voters in 2024 will require more volunteers and more support as we strive to keep up with the increasing numbers of potential voters in Comal and  Guadalupe Counties. There will be several opportunities to contribute with donations, time and effort starting with Giving Tuesday, Nov. 28.  If you have questions about how you can contribute, please contact president@lwvcomal.org. Check the website Calendar and monthly newsletters for upcoming events and opportunities.

Editor's Note:  The primary mission of Braver Angels Central Texas is to introduce area residents to the process of depolarization and civil discourse so they can respectfully engage in political and public policy discussions about important issues. This mission aligns with the LWV vision of a democracy in which every person has the desire, the right, the knowledge and the confidence to participate.  Braver Angels has scheduled the following two workshops in the Comal Area.

Families and Politics Workshop
Sat., Nov. 4, 2023, 2 to 5 p.m.
Unity of New Braunfels
408 Gruene Road
New Braunfels

Family relationships are becoming casualties of our toxic political environment. Family members are having nasty political arguments, avoiding each other, or even cutting off lifetime relationships. If you want to preserve important family bonds while still being true to your values and political beliefs, this workshop will offer you: insight into why family differences over politics are uniquely challenging; recognition of common roles that family members play in political conversations (for example, the Gladiator, the Defender, and the Sniper); strategies and skills for handling family political differences in a constructive way.

Although the focus is on family relationships, you can use learnings in this workshop with any loved one. You’ll laugh and have some fun in this workshop—it won’t be all serious. After all, we all come from quirky families.  Light refreshments will be served.  Before the workshop, participants may review the online eLearning module: Braver Angels Families and Politics. It only takes about 40 minutes to complete--and it's fun!

Skills Workshop for Bridging the Political Divide
Sat. Nov. 18, 2023, 1:30 to 4:30 p.m.
St. Francis By the Lake Episcopal Church
121 Spring Mountain
Canyon Lake

In our current polarized political environment, many people avoid or dread political conversations with friends or family members whose politics differ from their own. They worry, rightly so, that any attempts at political discussions will devolve into arguments and acrimony, and result in hurt feelings or anger. Braver Angels Skills for Bridging the Divide Workshops teach skills for having respectful conversations that clarify differences, search for common ground, and affirm the importance of the relationship. They also give participants a safe environment to practice those skills.  Light refreshments will be served.
