From the President

A reminder to all our Volunteer Deputy Registrars: all VDRs have to be re-certified in 2023.  Options for getting re-certified are listed on our VDR page. Our Voter Services V-P Laraine Henchal is working to set up a group class for us. Details will be sent via email & posted on the website when available.

In recent weeks, gathering the numbers to report our 2022 Comal Area activities to the state and national Leagues has left me filled with gratitude for all of you who join, volunteer and donate. We may be a small League but I feel very honored to head up this group of democracy defenders who accomplish so much. Thank you!

Happy Holidays and Joyous New Year to each of you!

- Jerrie Champlin

from the LWV Texas

The LWV Texas is once again gathering stories from Texas voters about their voting experience, this time for the November 8th Midterm Election cycle. We also welcome you to share your friends' and family's voting experiences, if they give you permission to share them.

Your story will help the League learn about how voting procedures impacted Texas voters and any challenges you may have experienced. We will use this information (without revealing any personal identifying information) to enhance our nonpartisan voter education and to advocate at the Capitol for improvements to voting in Texas on behalf of voters.

Students in the Comal area have the opportunity to create a prize-winning poster with the theme Be My Voice – VOTE!

The contest sponsored by the LWVCA is open to students in Comal or Guadalupe Counties in the following three age groups:  kindergarten through second grades, third through fifth grades, and sixth through eighth grades.  A cash award of $100 will go to the overall winner, and an award of $50 will go to the winner from each of the three age groups. Winning art may be used by the LWVCA in nonpartisan get-out-the-vote activities. The contest theme was chosen to remind students that adult votes shape students’ futures, and it provides an opportunity for them to learn more about the value of voting and democracy.

The LWVCA will start accepting submissions on January 3, 2023. The deadline for entries is February 28, and winners will be announced on March 20. Handcrafted originals must be sent to

and digital art to president@lwvcomal.org.  A supervising adult can contact Youth Empowerment Director Sheila Pattison at SheilaComalVote@gmail.com to arrange for pick up of multiple entries from the same group.

More detailed instructions and a submission form for artwork will be available by January 3 at lwvcomal.org.  Please email Pattison at SheilaComalVote@gmail.com if you have questions.
