Commemorate the signing of the US Constitution and celebrate the rights and responsibilities of citizenship at the Rally for Rights.

Our democracy and our freedom depends on our right to have a say in the decisions that impact our lives, jobs, health care and the education our children receive, and on the right to control our own bodies, lives and futures. These rights have been eroded, threatened and stripped.

We  invite you to join us and our community partners, the Bexar Area Alumnae Chapter of the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, the League of United Latin American Citizens and the New Braunfels MLK Association to stand with others across our nation in support of the Freedom to Vote: John R. Lewis  Act and to demand that our lawmakers restore and protect our rights.

Please note, this is a nonpartisan rally and we ask that participants honor that nonpartisan spirit by not wearing or displaying any clothing or signs that support or oppose any political party or candidate.

Be a part of South Central Texas's day of giving - an opportunity to unite our community around causes in which we truly believe and help nonprofit organizations connect to the larger community.

LWV-Comal Area needs your support! Please help us reach our goal of $2500! We need you to tell your friends and family members about the important work we do and ask them to join us in helping to make a difference in our community.

Get ready to give! On September 22-23, visit BIG GIVE SA and make a donation to us and/or to any of the great participating nonprofit organizations in South Central Texas. All giving will end at 5:59PM on September 23, so make sure to get your gift in on time!

Need more information? Email president@lwvcomal.org, or call or text 830-643-4657. Thank you in advance for helping us empower voters and defend democracy!

FROM THE PRESIDENT

Thank you to V-P for Organization Kristen Coppock for organizing a productive and fun fall membership meeting!  Thank you to all who attended including several guests that enlivened our discussion of Get-Out-the-Vote (GOTV) activities for the Nov. 8 election. Thank you to  the New Braunfels MLK Association for sharing the beautiful "The Journey" quilt which is being auctioned off to fund their non-traditional scholarship award.

GOTV volunteer opportunities are plentiful this fall as LWV-CA plans to double the number of election flyers and Voter Guides we distribute  and we need you!  A reminder: members need to log in to see the volunteer slots available. Members can also sign up friends and supporters who are not members.

Kudos to all our volunteers!  The LWV-CA has been selected by Unity of New Braunfels to receive a Unity Sacred Service Award for making a "significant contribution to the greater New Braunfels community". The award which includes $200 will be presented Sunday, November 14 at 11:00am at the Unity of New Braunfels sanctuary.

Save the date: our annual Holiday Brunch is planned for Saturday, Dec. 17 at 11 a.m.

Coming up in a few days is the Constitution & Citizenship Day Rally for Rights Sept. 17 and I hope to see you there.  With our most basic rights being challenged, we need to ensure that our lawmakers see us and hear our demands that they protect our rights!

Voter Services

In August,10 members and 1 community partner volunteered 70 hours; spoke with 746 potential voters, and registered or assisted 39 voters. In July and August, we provided 1,000 election information flyers to potential voters.  In September and October, we plan to distribute 5,000 flyers and 4,000 printed Voter Guides. Leaguers have been collecting candidate information and replies for the online VOTE411.org Voter Guide which goes live Oct. 6, and for potential recorded candidate forums which will be posted to our YouTube channel.  Youth Empowerment will be assisting Comal Independent School District in offering in-school voter registration to 574 students turning 18 by the Nov. 8 election.

Interested in helping to register voters and Get-Out-The-Vote?  Members log in and go to our Volunteering page, or members and non-members can contact voterservices@lwvcomal.org.
