FROM THE PRESIDENT

The LWV National Convention was the inspiration needed as it opened on the day the SCOTUS overturned Roe v. Wade.  I encourage members and supporters to view the Women Power Democracy Panel and LWV US President Dr. Deborah Turner's Opening Address.

Two weeks later, our local Comal Area Board of Directors met to plan activities for the coming year. This fall midterm election season is going to be busy with lots of volunteer opportunities for all of you, and we need your time and energy to continue making a difference in our community.  Did you know that during the past two years, the League has impacted 35.8 million voters across our nation?  Locally we have done our part in expanding our outreach to voters in Comal and Guadalupe County, and we're poised to do more!  I hope to see you at our Fall Membership Meeting on Sunday, Sept. 11, to discuss what's ahead.

Jerrie Champlin

Voter Services and Youth Empowerment volunteer opportunities are lining up for the fall election season. Volunteer Deputy Registrars are needed for the following events:

National Voter Registration Day, Tuesday, Sept. 20, locations and times to be determined

If you are not a certified VDR, we welcome you to join us at any event to help distribute election and voting information.  It's not just about registering voters, it's getting folks to GO VOTE!  We also need people to help gather candidate and ballot information beginning August 23 through mid-September.

To volunteer, please contact Laraine Henchal, voterservices@lwvcomal.org.

Join LWV-Comal Area and our community partners on Women's Equality Day, Friday, August 26, and on Constitution & Citizenship Day, Saturday, September 17, as we stand to demand that our elected representatives protect our civil rights.  The focus on the 26th is "there is no equality without reproductive rights" and on the 17th, the freedom to vote. Tentatively, we will gather on Main Plaza in New Braunfels  at 5:30 on Women's Equality Day and at noon on Constitution & Citizenship Day.  Please note, these are non-partisan rallies and we ask that participants not wear or display any partisan signs or apparel.
