2022 ANNUAL MEETING HIGHLIGHTS
Thirty members and guest Guadalupe County Elections Administrator Lisa Hayes gathered at the McKenna Center May 11, to celebrate our League's accomplishments during the past year, present several awards and elect new officers.
From June 1, 2021, through April 30, 2022, LWV-CA registered over 740 voters, contacted over 2400 voters person to person and distributed 11,000 printed Voters Guides and elections flyers. We hosted or participated in over 45 events, including redistricting workshops with local community leaders, candidate forums and educational programs that over 3,000 attended or viewed online. Social media posts and our new website were viewed or visited over 20,000 times; digital advertising reached over 100,000 area residents. All accomplished by 50 League members and 45 non-member community partners who volunteered over 1900 hours.
The 2022 Educating for Democracy Award to Herald Zeitung Reporter Will Wright was announced in recognition of his contribution to empowering voters with coverage of local government and the impact of our state government on local voters. Comal County and Guadalupe County Elections Offices were honored for outstanding services to voters. President Jerrie Champlin gave surprise appreciation awards to members Gail Groves for Frequent VDR Appearances; Sheila Pattison and her children Julianna and Luke Pattison-Zengler for Family Engagement; Karen Douglas and Syble Johnson for Best Forum Questions and Best Rally Signs; Joyce Doyle for Community Events Guidance; and Milda Scott for Best Pet Pictures.
New officers VP for Organization Kristen Coppock, Membership Director Karen Douglas, Publicity Director Cassie Wedding and Youth Empowerment Director Sheila Pattison and Nominating Committee Chair Robin Engel were elected unanimously.
